Nordica Winter Rally at Nub’s Nob

Nub’s Nob Ski Area and Nub’s Nob Alpine Racing are happy to partner with Nordica to present the Nordica Winter Rally! This is an annual event designed to give junior alpine race clubs and their athletes a chance to compete together that normally do not meet. The race is an invite only race. Clubs may register any athletes who are signed up and training with their program during the 2018-2019 ski season.
Our partner and sponsor, Nordica, will be giving away great prizes. The fastest overall club will be given the annual Nordica Winter Rally club trophy. Individual medals will also be given to the top 5 racers in each category, broken down by age, gender and event.
The registration deadline for each team’s running order, racing fee and liability waivers (may be downloaded at https://www.nubsnob.com/racing-calendar) is January 27 (email to email@example.com). Payments in the form of one team check are preferred. NO payments will be accepted on the morning of the race. If one payment is not feasible, separate payments will be accepted if mailed in together. Lift tickets will be sold individually to participants the morning of the event at the lift ticket table in the back cafeteria.
Each Club will be limited to twenty athletes in each age/gender/event category. The top three finishers in each category will count towards the team score. The top five racers in each category will receive medals.
Each Club will be asked to provide 2 gatekeepers throughout the day. Assignments will be made by NNR. Team position sheets will be distributed to coaches during the coach’s and volunteer’s meetings. All teams will use the back cafeteria for gear storage and carry in food supplies.
Check-in and registration will begin at 7:30 am for team representatives in the back cafeteria where the team packages with bib numbers, hats, hill positions and a running order will be distributed. The coach’s meeting will be at 8:15 am in Nub’s Pub with the volunteer’s meeting at 8:45 am also in the Pub. The courses will be open for inspection at 9 am and racing will begin at 10 am. Any cloth bibs not returned will be charged to the club at $25/bib.
Note: Coaches may bump athletes up one age group if needed. Bumping more then one athlete (per age/gender group) or dropping down in age groups will not be allowed.
U8 (7 & under), U10 (8 & 9), U12 (10 & 11) and U14 (12 & 13). Competitors age group is determined by their age on 12/31/18.
Running order will be in order of age groups (U8, U10 etc….)
U8 and U10 will race 2 runs of Slalom and 2 runs of GS on Birch Run. Girls will begin on Slalom course 1 (skiers right), boys on course 2 (skiers left). Competitors should inspect both courses prior to racing. Second runs will start immediately after first runs conclude on the opposite course with the exact same running order. Slalom course 1 will use stubby gates and Slalom course 2 will use 60” junior gates. Each course will include no more than 2 hairpins and 1 flush (no thru gates or under gates). After an approximate one hour break, all racers will compete GS in the same format. Start time for the GS will be announced at the race hill.
U12 and U14 will race 2 runs of Slalom and 2 runs of GS on Race Arena. Girls will begin on Slalom course 1 (skiers right, boys on course 2 (skiers left). Competitors should inspect both courses prior to racing. Both Slalom courses on Race Arena will use 60” junior gates. Each course will include 2 hairpins and 1 flush and may include a thru gate (no under gates). Second runs will start immediately after first runs conclude on the opposite course with the exact same running order. After an approximate one hour break, all racers will compete GS in the same format. Start time for the GS will be announced at the race hill. The Race Arena slope uses a fast rope tow for uphill transportation so come prepared!
Individuals – Combined times for Slalom broken down by age and gender. Combined times for GS broken down by age and gender.
Teams – Top three racer’s combined times for Slalom broken down by age and gender. Top three racer’s combined times for GS broken down by age and gender. In the event a team does not have the minimum 3 racers per age bracket, points will be assigned based 3 racers per team and assigned a point value of one point more than a full roster for the purpose of team & overall scoring. Team Scoring for each event, age and gender division will be 1 point for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, 3 points for 3rd, etc… The team with the fewest overall points will be the winner.
Racer fee: $20.00 per athlete includes race set up, hat, bib assignment, and awards. There are no refunds allowed. Lift tickets are required, see below. We prefer one check per team to cover all racer fees. If this is not possible we ask individual payments are sent in together with team rosters. Include signed racer release forms with registration packet. Release form can be downloaded at www.nubsnob.com/racing-calendar. Registration deadline is January 27, 2019. Lift ticket Costs:
Racers age 8 years old and under receive a free lift ticket! Ages 9 – 13 receive a discounted $20.00 lift ticket. These tickets must be purchased on race day at the lift ticket table in the back cafeteria, which opens at 7:30am. Tickets must be placed on jackets – not on goggles or boots. We supply 2 comp coaches tickets per clubs with up to 20 members and 1 additional comp coach ticket for every 10 racers above 20. Please list coaches names on the registration sheet where noted.
Discounted lift tickets for family members of competitors will be available race day for $30.00 at the lift ticket table in the back cafeteria..

7:30 am – Registration by the team representative begins in the back cafeteria. Lift tickets on sale and teams store gear in the back cafeteria.
- All teams/athletes must be registered by 9 am
- Gatekeeper lift tickets will be available at the volunteer table
- The back cafeteria will be available to athletes and parents for the entire day.
8:00 am – Coach’s meeting in Nub’s Pub.
- Coach’s passes will be issued during the meeting.

9:45 am – Racing begins.
- Second runs will begin immediately following conclusion of first runs.
- There will be an approximately one hour break between disciplines, which includes thirty minutes for inspection of afternoon courses.
- Prize giveaways followed by the awards ceremony will begin approximately one hour after last competitor has finished in the back cafeteria.
